As a part of Intelligent Transportation System, Dynamic Route Guidance System (DRGS) improves the condition of information asymmetry between travelers and traffic administrators, coordinates the confliction between travelers'"user optimum"and administrators'"system optimum", to some extent meets the need of the travelers and managers, so enhances the traffic capacity and reduces traveler's trip time.The select of guidance cycle of DRGS, which is the basic problem but has not been studied, is systematic studied in this dissertation based on the guidance strategy provided by Design of intelligent route guidance system and it's simulation.The related researches in china and abroad are reviewed at the beginning, and the current studied situation and the problems are pointed out. In addition, the basic characteristics, structure and function of each part of DRGS are analyzed. All and main factors influenced the determination of guidance system are given, and the factors and their interrelations in each hierarchy is discussed. Based on the characteristics above, the main confirm method of guidance cycle, namely system simulation, is put forward. Designing the simulation according to specific traffic network which is for better simulating, provides the experimental condition of researching guidance cycle. The simulation is operation aiming at road structure, control cycle and follow rate, which are the main effects of guidance cycle determination. The results of simulation show that: 1. The guidance strategy based on machine learning is effective and improves the service rate of traffic network. 2. Road network structure, control cycle and follow rate have remarkable influence on guidance cycle determination. 3. Road network structure has a big influence on guidance cycle, i.e. the total number the vehicle passed in one cycle, and the more the intersections passed in one cycle, the smaller the effect of guidance cycle; the influence of variance of control cycle on guidance cycle is that the guidance cycle must extend with the prolong of control cycle. The effect of follow rate is that the guidance cycle is not suitable too long under lower follow rate, and comparably the guidance cycle can be prolonged under a higher follow rate. The results of simulation show that reasonable guidance cycle is helpful to realize the equilibrium between traffic time and space and improve the whole efficiency of traffic system.
