The main characteristics of the traditional Chinese courtyard building is a closed-plane layout system based on the wood frame.As far as known, Shanxi Qishan Fengchu village is the earliest and most stringent courtyard-style example which was 3000 years ago. With the decline of the hathpace construction, except for the individual ethnic minority areas, the pattern of Chinese courtyard building becomes the main stream. Courtyard building as the carrier of Chinese civilization, through a long-term accumulation, Shanxi, Shaanxi and Beijing, Hebei courtyard buildings are quite representative, thereinto Beijing courtyard is quite outstanding,, which formulates the final formation of a mature structure, shape and detail style.In this paper, Beijing courtyard is as an example for further study and research. Through the research on the context, scale, space, and culture, and the survey in the status of courtyard and Chinese courtyard projects related to the actual research——Tianjin Xiaozhan Lianbingyuan ancient building projects, the advantages and the difficulties in the courtyard has been known clearly.In the purpose of establishing a development strategy of modern courtyard space pattern, including cultural buildings, commercial buildings, office buildings, living buildings, which expatiates the way of transformation in space and function such as conversion and re-creation method. Looking forward to make the pattern of traditional courtyard modernize, practical, and becomes a suitable Chinese way from tradition to modern architectural, also becomes the thought of the design with the traditional Chinese architectural theory. Along with the profound research to the representative of the traditional courtyard pattern, it would surely contribute to the development of Chinese modern architecture.
