Background of the greenway network and the significance of the relative research were firstly mentioned. And, in retrospect, practice and theories on urban greenway network since the 1860s were talked about. While ecology theories on greenway network and relative practical measures were introduced, focus was paid on landscape ecology and landscape pattern analysis.Then, taking the metropolitan Tianjin as the object, based on comparing quantitative analyses of greenway status and greenway planning in master planning of Tianjin city (2005-2020) , four patch-class landscape indexes(CA,PD,ED,MPS)were chosen. We find the green planning total area increased (CA from 98590 hm2 to 105510 hm2 ), fragmentation reduced(natural green MPS 1257 hm2to1815 hm2,human green MPS from197.2 hm2to294 hm2, and green patch shape more complex (ED from 10.19 to 10.64 ). Yet, the planning is not guided by landscape ecology theory and does not consider ecological process.Four greenway network planning projects were made with their corridor structure indexes and network structure indexes were concerned. Corridor structure indexes include ecological nodes number, ecological corridor number, length of ecological corridor, ecological corridor density. Conclusion is that network three and network four has the high corridor complexity. Network structure indexes included network circuitry indexα, node line ratioβ(network connectivity)γ,cost ratio. We find that network four has the highestαindicating the most circuit, network four also has the highestβindicating the most corridor link degree, the highestγindicating the most network link degree, the lowest cost ratio indicating the highest efficiency. That to say, the network four is optimized.A landscape structure planning of Metropolis Tianjin was then tried to given combined with space planning. The relation of greenway network, traffic network and construction area were concerned.In the end, several suggestions to make and apply the green network planning were discussed.
