Crawler crane as a lifting equipment is widely used in various fields of the national economy. Its wide range of unique advantages and widely used in many areas makes its status can not be replaced. However, the designing capacity, scale and quality of products of capacity crawler crane, are a considerable gap between domestic and abroad. This article is based on the actual situation that large-scale production of high-performance and high level crawler crane is needed in China's economic development, to raise the designing capacity of large tonnage crawler crane.There are two parts in this paper. One is the determination of designing basis of hinge-point location and length of upper-car components, the other one is the optimization of the jib section and diameter. The study of the two parts, are also known as main structure parameters of the upper-car.In the first part, based on the movements` relationship and force condition of upper-car, we determined to find the global optimal solution through the optimization method as the basis for designing of upper-car components, and then established a mathematical model for optimization. After discussion, we chose genetic algorithm as the main optimization algorithm, and supplemented by partial enumeration method for detail optimizing, then put them into program. Through the example of the calculation, the feasibility of this program was verified by the good results.As the boom had been parameterized into finite element model, we decided to use the design optimization module of ANSYS in the second part of our job. In the process of optimization, we used both of zero-order and first-order method, so that we could get a global accuracy results. And through examples of the calculation, we got what we expect for, which is a reasonable distribution of materials to make a reasonable stress distribution, and ultimately to achieve the purpose of cost savings.
