As China's economic development, the electricity load of residents is increasing heavily sharply, coupled with the aging lines and other reasons, the electrical fire occur frequently. According to relevant statistics are available, a fire caused by electric causation in the various ranks high on the list, accounting for about 30 percents. The electric fire was mainly caused by the arc fault. The dangerous arc that may occur in the unreasonable design or aging electricity lines, electrical appliances or household appliances plug the power cord and internal wiring harness and insulation on parts and components. Arc fault is characterized by high temperature and rapid expansion of fault until ignited nearby combustibles to caused the fire as soon as breakdown. So it is particularly important to prevent this from fire caused by arc fault.At present, low-voltage arc fault protection technology is still at the initial stage, which have not yet established a comprehensive database of low-voltage electric arc fault, the protection of 220V/AC line and load equipment for arc fault protection products are still blank. Bass on the existing technology, this paper was mostly about the analysis and detection of the arc fault.Firstly the paper expatiates on the development background, the current situation and prospects, as well as the purpose of the meaning of the subject of arc fault protection. The detailed analysis of arc fault shows that the fundamental nature, the basic types, causes and fault arc hazards of Arc, as well as through the arc fault type comparable to characteristics and over-current protection comparable to residual current circuit breaker protection introduce, and further understanding the characteristics of the arc fault.Followed by the arc fault detection, which through the arc to build the experimental platform, and based on the experimental platform to carry out a large number of arc experiment, you can collect the normal load current and arc fault current data, then through data analysis and processing, in order to provide a basis for detecting arc fault.
