While appreciating planting design in contemporary landscape, we will find that such a phenomenon: when we appreciate a planting which includes the western style of planting with peculiar pruned shape, beautiful color combinations, tidy planting form, and unable to enter the endless carpet of a lawn in different historical periods and different geographic locations, how many decision-makers, designers and users really understand the meanings of the west planting culture. This is because the way of planting design is a product of the western cultural tradition, and it is fit for the western way of life and social psychological needs. On the contrary, some of the traditional plant species, such as plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum is deep into the Chinese people's profound social and cultural bone marrow, people can easily identifies it. Showing the charm of the traditional planting culture, and the impotent role in contemporary landscape design is the original intention of this paper. The purpose of the study is to create the contemporary planting culture with Chinese characteristics including of the national style, local characteristics, and fitting to the modern life, through inheritance and expansion of the traditional planting culture, combined with modern scientific theory. National style stressed the freshness of Chinese planting design characteristics; Local characteristics stressed the manner and method of work to concrete analysis of concrete problems; Meeting modern life needs is to show the people-oriented spirit. And ultimately, attract people's attention to the nationalism, regionalism, cultural, artistry of landscape design comprehensively.Professor Yu Kong-jian clamed that"Ecological principles are the core of landscape architecture…the only ecological design with lack of cultural meaning and artistry is hardly accepted by society, and finally forgot by people, the value of the design will not be able to demonstrate."in"Landscape and urban ecological design: conceptions and theories". The ancients have understood this point long time ago. Chen Cong-zhou wrote that"Maples and poplars in Humble Administrator's Garden, ancient cedars in Wangshi Garden, are all the highlights in the gardens, about the overall situation, without it, the park scenery must be weakened. Therefore, only inheritance, development and innovation, we can create the contemporary planting culture with the national style, local characteristics, and fitting to the modern life, I believe that through our all efforts, as one of the "world's three major cultural landscape," the Chinese landscape design must be brilliant again!...
