The design quality and efficiency related to the survival and development of enterprises in the market competition.It is of great significance to improve the design quality and efficiency by designing with theory. On the basis of the independent Axiom and the information Axiom, Axiomatic design theory makes the theoretical system which can guides designers to make right decision. It can also help to improve work efficiency and the performance of the product.With the National Natural Science Foundation and commissioned projects of enterprises, the design problems in the existing stainless steel polishing equipment are analyzed. The solving method of function-structure based on Zigzagging Mapping, the decouple methods based on the independent Axiom and the methods to reduce the amount of information based on the information Axiom are brought up. These methods are used in the designing of the stainless steel polishing equipment.In the first chapter, the paper introduces Axiomatic design theory and the research and application of it. The advantages of the axiomatic design in stainless steel polishing equipment are analyzed. Finally, the author points out the paper's research content and structure.In the second chapter, the solving method of function-structure based on Zigzagging Mapping is brought up with designing the stainless steel polishing equipment. The function requirements and the Design Parameters of the stainless steel polishing equipment are analyzed. Four kinds of relationship of functions on time are summed up to be used in the process of function decomposition. Three kinds of relationship of functions on structure are summed up to be used in the process of structure analysis.In the third chapter, the coupling problems of the stainless steel polishing equipment are analyzed and the decoupling technology based on Independent Axiom is brought up. Connection between relationship of functions on structure and relationship of functions on time is analyzed. Two methods of decoupling are brought up which are used in decoupling the couple problems of the stainless steel polishing equipment.In the forth chapter, the optimizing problems of the stainless steel polishing equipment are analyzed and the optimizing technology based on Information Axiom is brought up. To solve the problem in information calculating, the way of relative information calculating is brought up. It is used to evaluation the proposal which can satisfy the requirement of the independent axiom and help to choose the best one. The method of structure Integration based on Design Structure Matrix is brought up.In the fifth chapter, the designing of stainless steel polishing equipment is made in the guide of Axiomatic design theory with the commissioned projects of enterprises. Firstly the couple problems of the original equipment are analyzed. Then the stainless steel polishing equipment is decomposed according to the model of relationship of functions, and the couple relations is find out using the relationship of functions on structure. The satisfied design is got in the process of zigzagging mapping. Then optimize the structure to get the best design which is guided by Axiomatic design theory. In the design of stainless steel polishing equipment, the transve(?)sely running problem is solved and the precision of the surface is improved.In the last chapter, the contents and the achievements of this paper are summarized, and the further research direction is pointed out.
