Matrix converter ,which has good prospect, is a novel power converter with a new topology, it can realize the transform from AC to AC straightway. Compare to the traditional electric power converter, it has many strongpoint, such as: it can dynamic respond rapidly, without the need of large reactive energy storage components, it is capable of performing frequency conversion with sinusoidal output voltages and currents at the desired output frequency and allows bi-directional power flow. Research on the operating performance of matrix converter, on one hand we can use it well, on the other hand can satisfy gradually strict rule of the electric fence.This thesis firstly discusses principal issues of the matrix converter. According to the space vector modulation method of the equivalent structure of the AC-DC-AC conversion, the AC-AC transformation control and the double-space-vector PWM scheme of the matrix converter were deduced. On the basis of the scheme and through the comparisons of several different modulation methods, a optimized switching scheme was presented to gain optimal input and output performance, as well as reduced switching loss.It also discusses semi-natural two-step commutation technology of the matrix converter. Then the thesis discusses the main circuit and its control system of the matrix converte.The experiment equipment is constructed with the common emitter bidirectional switches. The space-vector is implemented on the TMS320LF2407A DSP and the semi-natural two-step commutation technology is implemented on the CPLD.According to the principle of the matrix converter, build the space vector modulation matrix converter model in Matlab/Simulink. On the model, analyses the harmonic of input current and output voltage. Also analyses the fator which influences the harmonic such as output frequency, switch frequency and dead time. Finally, the reactive power were discussed in detail. That reactive need not be supplied by power is energy exchange rather than consumption, so it external source but can be produced by high frequent switching process in three phase circuit; and the bi-directional energy flow is the nature of the bi-directional switch which supplies loop for power flow.
