The study of the paper is a part of the vital fund item which belongs to Ministry of Education. The research focuses on the primary design and optimum design of the turbine which in the solar chimney system. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method is used to research the characteristic and performance of the turbine.Under the given solar chimney system model of 50kW, the turbine in the system was designed primarily and simulated numerically. By calculating and analyzing the characteristic and performance of the turbine, the distributions of flow field and the change of performance parameters under different work conditions were received. And the simulation results were validated which proved the methods of design and simulation were effective.On the base of turbine research, optimizations were applied from some aspects, such as number of blades, shape of blade, torsion angle and installation angle of blade. And all of influence factors were collected and analyzed. Then from the aspect of integer structure, the infection of adding guide blades on the turbine was researched. All the optimizations established basis for the design of turbine in the future.On the research of 50kW turbine, new turbine model in 200MW solar chimney plant was designed primarily. The scheme that 32 turbines were installed on the bottom of chimney circlewise was confirmed. And one of turbines was designed and simulated numerically, and the performance of turbine was analyzed and evaluated, which provided support for using solar chimney in large scale.
