Energy is an important basic resource for the development of human society. In recent years, people are made to search for renewable energy urgently, fighting against the sustained growing international oil price and increasingly prominent environmental pollution. Solar chimney technology is a new power generation technology utilizing solar energy, chimney effect and turbine technology. There are many advantages in solar chimney technology:abound resources, clean, low cost and simple geometric construction.In this paper, based on the theory of the heat transfer and the power output, we have designed a small type solar chimney system. We have measured the temperature field of each point and the velocity of the chimney outlet. The experimental result offered the effects of geometry size on system performance. The geometry size include:chimney height, chimney diameter, sprue shape.In this paper, based on some hypotheses, a numerical mathematical model about the airflow in the solar chimney system is established, by which the common commercial CFD software FLUENT is used to simulate the velocity field, the temperature field and the pressure field in the solar chimney system. The simulated result offered the effects of geometry size on system performance. The geometry size include:collector diameter, collector height, chimney shape, chimney height, chimney diameter.Finally, the simulated result and the experimental result have been compared and analyzed in the thesis. According to the analysis on the simulation and experiment result:when other size condition are changeless, the height of solar collector is on influence on the generated output; there is an optimal value of solar chimney diameter, by which the generated output of the solar chimney system is most; the generated output of the solar chimney system become greater with increase in the solar collector diameter, the solar chimney height and the blackness of heat storage layer; and it becomes greater when the chimney shape is gradually expanding. But gradually expanded type is difficult to building. The sprue shape also is the most important influence factors:smooth connection is better.The simulated result and the experimental result offered the theory and the guidance for the design optimization of the future practical solar chimney station. Based on the study of the effects of geometry size and shape on system performance, the reasonable form and geometry size were determined for a200MW power station.
