It needs to consume a lot of oil during the course of pulverized coal boiler commissioning, cold startup and low load combustion stabilization. Oil is very indigent in our country, and oil price is higher and higher in international market, therefore, all the world is concerning about the advanced fuel-efficient technology. Plasma ignition system can ignite pulverized coal and stabilize flame without any oil, which is an important mean to save oil used for the boiler ignition, flame stabilization and commissioning. Plasma ignition burner is one of the main equipment of the plasma ignition system, whose structure and ignition characteristics play key role in the application and popularity of plasma ignition technology. Therefore, this paper studies the ignition characteristics of plasma ignition burner by creating the expert system.Firstly, this paper introduces the component of plasma ignition system and pulverized coal combustion improved by plasma.Secondly, with CFD software FLUENT, a simulation investigation into the combustion feature in a plasma ignition burner is presented. The numerical simulation focuses on some ignition factors such as the temperature field, velocity field, CO distribution, CO2 distribution and the wall temperature. Collect these data as the burner prediction model samples database.Thirdly, this paper systematically studies and improves the BP algorithm by a combination of additional momentum and changing learning rate to increase the speed of network convergence; establish the expert prediction model of the plasma ignition burner combustion characteristics by the ANN (Artificial Neural Networks) and determine the input and output parameters of this model; train and test this model using the samples database to enable it to accurately predict the output parameters in the new conditions.Fourthly, this paper put forward a "double-weighted" new synthesis method and establishes the expert comprehensive evaluation model of the plasma ignition burner combustion performance from three aspects, namely safety, effectiveness and economy.Finally, this paper completes a visual expert system interface by using GUI toolkit in MATLAB. This system achieves all expert models visualization run, such as debugging, testing and training the neural network model; the expert prediction and the comprehensive evaluation of burner ignition combustion characteristics and performance. It is conducive to on-site staff to run the operation.
