Under the furious market competition, the profit space of manufacturers becomes smaller and smaller. In order to keep the continuous increase of their profits in this serious position, manufacturers pay more and more attention to the following suggestion: saving a little equals gaining a little. A good way to achieve this is to enhance the manufacturing quality of products, and reduce the errors when manufacturing. Therefore, how to improve the product manufacturing quality, prevent making errors in product development and manufacturing, and avoid waste of rework and discarding tremendously, becomes the focus of manufacturers. Error proofing method is just this good way for preventing manufacturing errors and enhancing the first passing rate.As the design is the source of product quality, inappropriate design may bring error chance to manufacturing process. In order to make better use of error proofing, this paper proposes applying error proofing into design process to eliminate the occasion of error by more reasonable design.The main contents of this paper are as follows:â‘ The theoretic knowledge of manufacturing error proofing methods are collected and collated; The use and the application range of error proofing are summarized; the category and the design principle of error proofing are concluded; its actualize process and problems should be noticed when actualizing are given.â‘¡The troubles in using error proofing are analyzed; The thought, which eliminates manufacturing errors by changing the scheme of product design or by being convenient for manufacturing process applying error proofing, is proposed; the architecture of Error Proofing Design for Manufacture (EPDMQ) and its design model are established; the research contents and design principle of EPDMQ are defined.â‘¢The design and evaluation method of EPDMQ are researched, errors in manufacturing process and the solutions by positive-going of FMEA and FTA are identified; Human Reliability Analysis Method is applied to manufacture to forecast the probability of human error in manufacturing process, the error proofing scheme and primary ones are compared by fuzzy evaluation method.â‘£The example of design of back shaft supporting is given to validate the theory of EPDMQ.
