If the sealability of the piston ring does not work properly, a series of problems will happen such as the shortage of compression and blowby of burning gases; high-temperature gas runs into the crankcase from the top circle of the gas ring, which will reduce of the engine power and the thermal efficiency. Moreover, high temperature and high pressure gas damages the necessary lubricant between the cylinder wall and piston ring, which will cause the problem of radiating due to the untightness between piston ring and cylinder, and the friction between the metals also will cause the abnormal abrasion. Finally, if the piston ring lost its function due to the abrasion, the engine will have some problems such as the difficult starting, high pressure in the crankcase, blue smoke in the exhaust gas, high fuel consumption and heavy carbon in the combustion chamber and piston surface, etcPiston ring, which is one of the most important components of the engine, is assembled in the groove on the top of the piston. Working in the condition of high-temperature, high-pressure and short of enough lubrication, piston ring has the shortest life time among all the engine components. Therefore, the quality of piston ring will directly influence the performance, reliability and endurance of the engine, at the same time, it have a significant impact on emissions performance. With continuous improvement of the engine performance and emissions requirements, making the problem of leakage of engine and design about piston ring was more important to businesses. Therefore, the study of the problem is of great realistic significance.This paper mainly studies how to establish different project of technology and to design different types of structures and technical parameters of the piston ring , based on the theory of reducing leakage of engine. At the same time ensure the weight of cylinder, the Piston etc isn't change. Verify the feasibility of it by test. Then collate and summarize the data, find solutions to settle the problem of leakage of engine, and scientific aids to improve the performance of the engine. Finally, optimize the design parameters and test validation by studying the piston ring's structure of LC188 engine.
