The suspending buildings as a pretty view of the mountainous city, is provided with the trait of holding and corresponding of the environment. So it is more and more popular, and has a good future. While there is no systemic research on its structure design, also is devoid of guideline of the advice, and no way for the in point regulations and criterion. There is a phenomenon that the theoretic study is obviously late for the requirement of engineering practice. So this paper is aimed at the characteristic for the Suspending Buildings, used by the Mode-superposition response spectrum method and nonlinear static analysis of push-over method. And it is expanding researched with the change of the story number, span, lengthways spans, gradient, grounding mode, and restriction of the bearing. The research content is included of several aspects as follows: Comparing with the common structure by the parameters of dynamic characteristics, deformation characteristics, variety of the Stiffness, and so on; analyzing the characteristics of force distribution on the special part of this type of structure; comparing the difference in the elastic-plastic phase with the common structure; giving some advice about the tectonic measures.On the research, there are major conclusions as following:â‘ Comparing with the ordinary frame construction, the suspending building is closed to the ordinary frame construction in period, story displacement as well as the most greatly horizontal seismic force which can withstand. Its seismic behavior is also closed to the ordinary frame construction.â‘¡The horizontal restraint between the superstructure and lower suspending foot (suspending platform) of the Suspending Building is the key factor which influent the stress characteristics, period, story displacement, torsion effect and so on.â‘¢When suspending platform has the crosswise restraint, the horizontal seismic shear force of the column under the platform is small, and the deformation at the bottom of the superstructure on the platform is large, also the force is not symmetric. The column which the platform restraint corresponds receives the largest seismic shear force. With the increase of the story and span of the superstructure, the percentage of the horizontal seismic shear force of the place will increase. When the suspending platform dose not have the crosswise restraint, the shear force of the top floor which under the platform changes suddenly. The most disadvantageous position of the structure will shift from the bottom of the superstructure on the platform to the top floor under the platform. The dynamic performance and the torsion effect will change.â‘£Comparing with the ordinary frame construction, during the elastic-plastic stage, the crosswise ductility of the suspending building is poor. The column of the suspending building's plastic hinges appears earlier than the ordinary frame structure, and the corner column which the platform restrained destroys heavily.
