For the existing building structures in the seismic zone, during the use age, the structural performance deteriorated gradually due to environmental factors,self-structural factors and artificial factors, and the seismic excitation could change due to the raising of seismic fortification intensity or the changing of structural function. So it is important to select a reasonable analysis method that used to evaluate the seismic resisting behavior of existing building structures. In this paper, how to apply the static nonlinear method to the seismic behavior assessment of existing building structures was analyzed, and some collusion were obtained.Firstly, the level lateral load pattern was analyzed in this paper. And bring forward a level lateral load pattern which can take into account the high modes and the torsion effects, as a basis of applying the spacing model to existing building structures.Secondly, aim to the characteristic of existing building structures, researching the effect of followed working life on the value of seismic excitation. The formula of maximum seismic effect coefficient for existing building structures was obtained. So it is convenient for determining the value of seismic excitation. Meanwhile, nonlinear demand spectrum which based on the China seismic code were acquired, it is convenient for evaluating the seismic resisting behavior of existing building structures according to the seismic code.Thirdly, the visual program which can calculate the relationship between bend and curvature which used to define the attribute of plastic ream in the ETABS, and the visual program which calculate the functional point were programmed for evaluating friendly the seismic resisting behavior of existing building structures.Fourthly, on the basis of theory analysis and self- the visual program, the static nonlinear analysis of one practical project which existed in Tianjin was employed using the software of ETABS, then its seismic performance was evaluated, and given the results of assessment.Finally, conclusions were educed according to the results gained, and put forward some problems which used to analyze deeply.
