The level and ability of product design is the embodiment of a country or regions innovation and competition. Being the key element of innovation, the Product Conceptual Design (PCD)has gained more and more recognition. PCD has the advantages of having the biggest design space, low design cost and can mostly reflect the intelligence of the designers.Whether the product conceptual design is successful determines the success design of the product. The Modular Design(MD) has been applied widely because it could shorten the time of the productdeveloping cycle, respond quickly to the changing of the market and lengthen the life cycle of products. The Green Manufacturing (GM) technology is the best way to realize ecological industry and sustainable social development. Different from the clean product manufacturing,Which mainly focus on its influences on environment and humanbeing,GM requires considering each step of the product life cycle systematically in the processes of Product design and manufacturing. It takes the minimum influence on health and environment and the highest utilization ratio of natura1 resources as its design goals. It also brings us the great concerns of different social fields day by day. The Green Design (GD) which meets the requirements of those purposes,is a newly modem design idea. design theory and design method in recent years; its design technology and method is under developing . This dissertation aims at the study of the technology and method of the Modular Green Design (MGD) and its application in PCD. Its tudies the design Process schema of PCD by combining MD and GD techniques, whlch is called MGD for PCD. Asystematic model was proposed for computer-aided PCD including the User Requirements Model(URM),the Product Functions Model(PFM),the Conceptual product Structure Mode(lCPSM),the Products Green Properties Evaluation Mode(lPGEM) and the Modules Properties Evaluation Model (MPEM). The general process of PCD is realized and a prototypical app1ication program on computer aided PCD is developed according to the author 's researching work on the MGD and PCD. The results of the study shows: the MGD design techno1ogy used for PCD is useful and feasible. The Proposed method has many characters, such as modeling is convenient, concept is clear and deducing has definitely results. But developing an applicable app1ication Program needs a 1arge amount of basic work to do,efforts of a technical staff maybe needed. This paper will probe into some items showed as below:Firstly, research progresses in MD,GD and PCD are analyzed from several aspects,Some typical research examples, research approaches and technologies are introduced, the Existing problems in PCD design are briefly anaIyzed, several research problems are proposed, and Parts of which will be solved emphaticalIy in the dissertation·Secondly, the process of product design is analyzed from the view of computer Information processing , especially the Process of PCD; The advantages and the essence of MGD and PCD are analyzed; and the general process of MGD for PCD,which suitable for computer information processing is established.Third1y,by the use of the system modeling theory and technology the MGD's system model for PCD , Which is suitable for computer information Processing is built, and its sub-modules include URM,PFM,CPSM,GPEM and MPEM.Fourth1y,the relationships between MGD and PCD are studied, dynamic user requirement module is proposed, and basing on URM and PFM,two kinds of mapping methods, which solve the design problem and give out the conceptual product's structure are discussed. Finally,a prototypical application program of MGD for PCD is developed based on the Theories which are proposed by the author. At the end of this dissertation,a brief conclusion is given, and some relevant researching work in the future is presented.
