Product design style is the expression of the feature which is formed in the process of design.The feature and style of the modern design depend on the inherent national culture and ideas of the designers, as well as the knowledge of science and literature of the designers.With these backgrounds, this paper focus on the product design style of modern China.Firstly, it is pointed that the design style of modern China has to be along the away of nationalization, which is proposed according to our extensive researches in design art style, including the connotation of the design art style and the different classes of the research. Moreover, the status of the industry design in modern China is discussed and analyzed. It is pointed that the industry design in modern China pay much attention on imitate rather than creation, so it is difficult to form the design culture of itself.Then the nationalization design style is particularly discussed. On one hand, the nationalization design in Japan and North Europe is analyzed and summarized; on the other hand, the deeply connotation of the Chinese traditional design and figure arts is researched. This paper not only use the experiences of the foreign countries for reference, but also dig the national culture to point that the best way of the nationalization design style in Chinese product design is combining the traditional elements with the modern design. The methods of figure form in Chinese nationalization design are also researched in details.At last, the production of our researches——the theory of nationalization design style is applied in the smallware design. The domestic smallware design lacks the successful originality and spreading of the brand. The common fault is imitating the product exterior to decrease the costs. This paper takes the smallware design as an example. According the market survey, it is pointed that the lacks of the product design style is owing to the lacks of the national culture in China, and the nationalization design style is the best way to solve this problem. One of the most interesting ideas in this paper is to use the nationalization design style in the smallware design.It is hopeful that the mode of the research in nationalization design style constructed in this paper will be helpful for improving the product design style in China.
