In this paper, a new type of current-magnet reciprocating linear motor for household refrigerator compressor is studied. Work principle, mathematical model, design method and performance characteristic of this new linear motor have been conducted thorough research. Then, a prototype compressor was developed and tested experimentally.Based on the theory of motor design and formation characters of current-magnet reciprocating linear motor, mathematical models of mechanical and electromagnetic systems of this motor are established first. Then the sources and mutual relations of the motor system parameters have been analyzed. With the help of UG & ANSYS, the linear motor is analyzed in electromagnetic field when the motor's 3D solid modeling has been established. This article has carried on the detailed design calculation to the prototype, subsequently, theory basis and formula are proposed. After the theoretical efficiency of the motor has been calculated and the major factors which impact the efficiency have been analyzed, this paper has given the general principles of the linear motor design.Based on the characteristics of the prototype experimental study, this paper has obtained the linear motor's basic performance parameters, analyzed the frequency, voltage and load impact on the linear motor's power and efficiency, all of which providing a reference for the integration design of linear compressor.
