Because of the shortage of non-renewable energy, energy saving has become a world-wide topic. Being part of it, green lighting projects are attracting more and more attention. As a high efficient, long life time lighting source, High Intensity Discharge(HID) lamps plays an important role in it. Therefore the development of the drive circuit of the lamp, namely ballast has become an important research point. Because of the excellence in energy saving, light weight, etc. electronic ballast will gradually take the place of traditional electromagnetic ballast.High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps has the highest luminous efficiency and also has long life, good color rendering good qualities, and so HPS lamps are widely used in lighting system such as square road, wharf, railway, mine and so on. Therefore this thesis is armed at developing electronic ballast of HID lamps.At the beginning of the thesis, the lighting principle of HID lamps, the current research status of electronic ballast and the requirements of electronic ballast of HPS lamps are introduced. And then the thesis investigates the correlative technologies of electronic ballast, such as power factor correction (PFC), high frequency inverter, the question of acoustic resonances containing detecting and solution ways. After that, A220V/250W dimming electronic ballast of HPS lamps based on the IC of L6574 is introduced with detail design process in Chapter 3. The theoretical analysis and experimental results are provided to verify its superiority.At the end of thesis, A design of the wireless and energy saving HPS electronic ballast lighting system of road based on ZigBee technology is proposed. A kind of address arithmetic and the frame structure of command algorithm are put forward in this Chapter, and feasibility ofthe application of the ZigBee technology in the wireless lighting monitoring system is verified.
