This paper analyzes the application of GIS to the Pavement Decision Support System (PDSS)both at home and abroad, explores the feasibility of applying GIS to Local Typical Structure PDSS, works out the framework of Typical Structure PDSS based on GIS secondary development, as well as comes up with concrete implementation measures for such functions. This paper features the integration of Typical Structure PDSS for arterial highway with the GIS platform, the combination of traditional PMS with Typical Structure PDSS based on GIS and the successful realization of the establishment of GIS-oriented Typical Structure PDSS according to the concrete requirements of road keeper in due consideration of the advantages of both the GIS interface and traditional PMS.This project lays stress on establishing a Typical Structure PDSS database for arterial highway on the GIS platform in system development as well as designing out and connecting the spatial database and attributive database of the system in line with relevant database establishing principles to set up a Typical Structure PMS database. With the joint development of C++Builder, MapObjects and Access database, this project realizes the rapid two-way inquiry of map and data, and puts forward a new classification method for project data with regard to the climate division features of Hubei province, which effectively solves the problem of scattered data indexes'interference on the classification result, as well as the varied degree of importance of different indexes in concrete projects with the help of index weight. Moreover, this paper introduces the method of spatial interpolation under the special condition that different data information has different weight rates, and provides a solution to the interpolating of unidentified point data through identified data and the vector relation of space. Based upon the above-mentioned research, this paper develops successfully the GIS-oriented Typical Structure PDSS .
