Study On Signalized Intersection Service Level In Mix Traffic Conditions

Intersection which is the main part of traffic net seems also to be the choke point of traffic flow. It's of great meaning to calculating and evaluating level-of-service (LOS) for intersections. Evaluating the LOS correctly can be helpful for improving the serious traffic congestions and optimizing network structures.Nowadays, domestic researches for LOS are concentrate on evaluating index instead of calculating methods. The common evaluating method is classifying the LOS into several ranks. However, the rigid LOS thresholds can not reflect the fuzziness of user perceptions.The paper firstly introduces the existing method for calculating service level of intersections. After pointing out some defaults, fuzzy method has been brought forward. Secondly, the paper has built up a special evaluating system for mix traffic conditions in China. Thirdly, after demonstrating three common means for calculating capacities, the paper has tried to find a most suitable way for mixed traffic through an example. Fourthly, the paper has analysis the characters for bicycles so that bicycle's effect to LOS has revealed. Finally, the paper has gained a fuzzy classifying for LOS by Matlab.By comparing the fuzzy result to urban planning institute standards, fuzzy method can be better reflect the real conditions.
