The OTDR System And Its Application Software Design Based On ARM

Along with the flourish development of optical communication, the requirements for optical fiber are going up at very fast speed, so as the development of optical fiber measurement equipment. Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) is the specialist among them. OTDR is a kind of the new type optical malfunction measuring equipment that developed in 1980's. The important function of OTDR is searching the break point and locating it. OTDR have advantages of un-destroy measure, functions, safety and convenient use. And it has been widely used in project. At present, this field is monopolized by foreign companies, and foreign products are more expensive. In this condition, it is very necessary that domestic corporations implement OTDR research and development, reduce costs, improve technology, and occupy the field of optical fiber measurement market.In this paper, I firstly introduce the history and present situation of OTDR, describe the optical principle of optical fiber examination technology, as well as the basic working principle of OTDR. After the part of theory, based on the characteristics of the system and the resources of development, proposing the embedded system is the best choice to realize this OTDR system. On this basis, detailedly introduce overall hardware structure of this system, which select ARM as control core and DSP as operation core. This dissertation mainly explains the software solutions of ARM system which select S3C2410 ARM processor as core, focuses on the migration of embedded Linux, bootloader, file system, GUI selection, QtopiaCore migration and development etc.The optical fiber examination system that this paper designed, has characteristics of accurate and high reliability. The experiments prove that this system can test the attenuation and the length of the optical fiber accurately according to the international standard.
