The Cultural Study Of Street Landscape From The Regional Perspective

As the course of globalization and urbanization are developing rapidly, nowadays the cultural characters of many cities'streets are disappearing. Local characters of the cities are becoming less obvious. The citizens that are living in the cities have lost their sense of belonging to the streets. So the study of the local cultural background of the landscape and recovering the non-space characters are very significant.By studying the relationship between urban design and streets, it is discusses how important shaping the local characters of street space to the city development and the significance of protecting the local culture of the street space to a city. And in accordance with the analysis of domestic and abroad urban street space, it explores the development of the street space and its features and the existing problems.Urban street space which directly shows the beauty of a city is very important for a city and the residents. Urban street landscape is not only an important part of the urban street environment but also a part of the urban open space system. Urban street landscape which has both natural and social properties is a complicated landscape space system.The paper is composed by five parts: the fist chapter is the general introduction of the study; the second chapter introduces the basic theories and affected elements related with urban street landscape design. To illustrate how culture influence the urban street landscape on value and meaning aspects and the undividable relationship between culture and urban street landscape, in this chapter it listed the basic definitions and analysis the developing history of cities and streets in both East and West. It looks at the cultural characters of the streets from different angles, such as the categorizing and the space organizing of the urban streets. Chapter three lists the existing problems and causes of the urban street landscape design in cultural aspect. It also lists the causes of the cultural character losses of the urban street landscape design. Chapter four is about the comprehensive study of designing urban street landscape with cultural characters, including design principles, evaluation system, developing trend and significance. Chapter five analyses how to create cultural characters in urban street landscape design by taking Tianjin city as an example. The last chapter gives some suggestions on creating cultural characters in urban street landscape design.
