In this paper, the equivalent circuit and dynamic performance of the permanent magnet synchronous motor are researched. The main research contents are as follows.The first part, the equivalent circuit of PMSM are summed up and analyzed, and then the theory of the equivalent circuit has been based on to developed a no-load performance simulation procedures, 2.5kW and 37kW PMSM are taken as an example to simulate and simulation results to meet the engineering requirements. More than a PMSM are taken for the steady-state performance simulation and the using of the steady-state simulation program is feasible to design and optimize the motor, the calculation result is credible.The second part, 250 W line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor and 900 W permanent magnet servo motor are taken as example and calculated with two dimension finite element method. The process of sudden short-circuit is simulated and the sub-transient reactance of permanent magnet synchronous motor is calculated. At last, the three-phase sudden short circuit test is taken and sub-transient reactance is calculated, and the simulation results are compared. Through experiment of radial permanent magnet motors, the method has been proved feasible, and it will supply a reliable base for permanent magnet motor designing. The transient reactance value of the different specifications of the permanent magnet asynchronous motor in the different air gap is studied.The third part, a permanent magnet synchronous motor of 2.5kW is taken as an example to study the line-start process and the main performance of the line-start process, and then the test results are analyzed. The line-start process is simulated by ANSOFT software and the curve of speed and current are meeting to the curve of the experiment. The main performances of the line-start process are compared with the value of the test. The results of simulation deviate from the value of the test, which are due to the importation of leakage reactance caused by inaccurate parameters.
