Steel reinforced concrete structure gets more widely used in the civil engineering.Frame joint is the key part that connects columns and beams. And the composite joint is more complex than the usual joint. So it is very important to design the joint correctly.Finite element method helps the researcher solve a lot of problems. In this thesis nonlinear finite element analysis is presented on the shear capacity of the composite joint. The basic theory of FEM and the FEM software ANSYS is introduced. The finite element models of the joints are set up in ANSYS.The ultimate capacity, deformation, failure mechanism of the joints can be received. The result getting from ANSYS is confirmed again by contrasting with that of the test.14 joints are designed and calculated by ANSYS to find out how the influence factors affect the mechanical behavior of the joints. The factors include the axial ratio, the concrete strength, the ratio of reinforcement and the thickness of the column steel web.The failure mechanism of the joint is analyzed. Then, the formula of shear capacity is proposed.
