Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a self-organizing wireless communication network system that is composed of a large number of micro sensor nodes. It is a new research topic of fire safety that applying wireless sensor network for fire detection system which is an effective means for early detection and timely suppression of fires. At first the development of fire detection technologies is introduced in this thesis. Then the technology of wireless sensor network and its application are presented. The feasibility and advantages of fire detection using wireless sensor network technology is also discussed. And a design of intelligent wireless fire monitoring system is proposed in this artical. It presents the model of wireless fire detector based on the hardware platform consisting of the radio module (CC2420) and microcontroller (ATmega128). There are sensors of temperature, humidity and smoke on the detector, which can measure temperature, relative humidity and smoke density using the programme implemented in the microcontroller. A multi-hop routing protocol based on CSMA/CA algorithm is designed for detectors creating network automatically and transmission sensor data by multi-hop. Also, background software running on a computer is developed to collect every detector's data, which is analyzed by the computer for fire alarming. The system performance experiments and results are showed in the end of this thesis. It can communicate accross some obstacles with delay-time 50ms per hop, and can achieve class I sensitivity of responsing to fire.Repeated standard fire experiments verify that the wireless fire monitoring system proposed in this thesis can detect fire early and accurately according the complex parameters including temperature, relative humidity and smoke. And compared to traditional fire detection systems, this system has unique advantages to the protection of ancient architecture and monitoring of dangerous source.
