In this paper, the effects of trajectory in soil for earth penetrating shell are introduced by using ANSYS/LS-DYNA software. The effects include the different nose shape, incidence angle, initial attack angle and striking velocity. In the first part, the paper reviews the history and the status of research on penetrating into soil for the earth penetrating shell, which draws the significance of the research on the trajectory in soil for the shell. Then the character of numerical simulation is introduced simply. According to the Lagrange algorithm of ANSYS/LS-DYNA finite element computational procedures, a simulation analysis is made, which analyzes the process of the earth penetrating shell penetrating into soil. Based on the analysis, the trajectories in soil of shell are obtained in different situations. And the movement rules and characteristic are summarized in different nose shape, incidence angles, initial attacks and striking velocity. Finally, the simulated data is compared with the results of the GRDPEN and analytic method to verify the correctness of the finite element analysis. The research provides good references for construction and protection of underground military engineering. It also has important meaning for the warhead design of projectile when attacking hard target that covered by thick soil.
