This paper is based on cognitive psychology, studying the process of identifying guiding signs according to sensing, pattern recognition, attention, extract information, memory storage, such as information processing and decision-making process. After analyzing of the driver's visual effects and driving characteristics, from people-car-road-environmental systems, the specific information of guiding—drivers-receiving stimulation—information processing—decision-executing,of core functions of the system, draw out of the processing model of the guide information for driver. In accordance with the principles of model, using the relationship between the Chinese characters words and the cognitive time,as well as the relationship between quantity of the road signs and the cognitive time, calculate the processing time of the information. It is in accordance with terms of message of traffic signs.Traffic signs were divided into single meaning traffic signs and multi-traffic signs. For the obtained information, including traffic signs not only traffic information(single meaning traffic signs and multi-traffic signs),but also interference information(road information and environmental information).According to ergonomics research results show that:Most drivers can't identify the information quantity when it exceeds 6.Study the threshold amount of guiding marks information using the result. In the study of the information density threshold, compute the pre-place distance and identifying-distance according to processing model of the guide information and dynamics. Then set up the math model of information density threshold.Taking the GuangHua intersection as an example, and analyzed the threshold amount and the information density threshold, simulated it with traffic simulation software VISSIM.Simulation result shows that the intersection guide sign information density was too large.
