Based on the analysis of a novel thyristor controlled phase shifter(TCPS), the author established its phasor model for the simulation of TCPS in power flow and stability control.The model is used at two-end power system to verifys the correctness of the built model.The effectiveness of TCPS for regulating power flow distribution,improving power grids stability and economics is verified through a mesh circuit.Finally,we introduce the concept of the real power flow performance index(PI).The sensitivity of PI with respect to the control parameters of TCPS has been used as a measure to decide optimal location in the system.For the calculation of optimal capability of TCPS,an optimal transmission and economical model is established,in which the total power supply and economic benefit of TCPS is maximized to find the optimal parameters,and the proposed methods are applied in a practical power grid.
