During previous earthquakes, the rural residence is the worst affected. The main reason is that the rural residence is made of brick or stone. This type of structure is mainly expressed in the nature of brittle and weak deformation performance, resulting in weak capacity of resisting to earthquake. What's more, the rural residence has not been designed reasonably by design institute in the time of construction, and the construction quality is poor. Wuhan City is also the case. Moreover the Wuhan City has been determined as one of the eleven focus defense cities to earthquakes by the State Council in the next fifteen years .Therefore, specific understanding the seismic performance of the rural residence in Wuhan city and how to improve the seismic capacity is an urgent problem need to be resolved. The article does some studies on the subject, and the main contents as follow:Firstly, Carefully introduced the residential villages and towns of this low-rise masonry structure prevalent species in the earthquake damage to a variety of common conditions, and carefully introduced the types of housing in the level of the internal forces under earthquake and seismic check the calculation, a brief description of seismic design concept.Secondly, the rural residence around Wuhan City has been surveyed widely. Considering the construction age, structure type, low-rise housing, construction materials and other factors, two typical rural residences are get to be tested on static and dynamic. Through static testing of construction the physical parameters and structure geometry size has been get. Those do a god job to the seismic analysis and structural identification; Through dynamic testing the damping and the self-vibration cycle of the structure is gained.
