Profiled steel sheeting is a form of cold-formed steel and the main building retaining structure. In order to easily calculate the cross-section cold-formed steel properties, von Karman introduced the "effective width" concept in 1932.Abroad,as well as the norms of our country on the profiled steel sheeting in the design calculations are carried out on the basis of the concept. However, the norms in the given formula for calculating the effective width are different which lead to the existence of some differences in the results. This research is proposed for this difference:through software simulation and finite element analysis of the representative profiled steel sheeting and considering post-buckling strength of steel,we get the stress distribution of the flange slab. Then with the stress distribution we get an effective width correspond to the actual stress. The difference obtained from the contrast of the software's data and several codes' results. With the comparison of the effective width from some commonly-used profiled steel sheeting, the text put forward a amendatory proposal to the plate-to-plate restriction coefficient which raised in《Technical code of cold-formed thin-wall steel structures》GB50018-2002.The conclusion of this text will supply a calibration for the effective width's calculation of the profiled steel sheeting's compressed flange slab...
