Matrix converter is a novel power converter with a new topology, which composed of bidirectional switches that can conduct current on bi-direction. It can implement frequency change directly, and obtain sinusoidal input current and unit power factor. The output frequency can be regulated freely and the energy can flow on bi-direction. Matrix converter is a"green"power converter because it greatly reduces the harmonic and reactive pollution for power grid.The development of matrix converter is introduced. The basic circuit topology and principle are studied in this paper and describes matrix converter's modulation of Venturini principle and Space Vector Modulation, Venturini modulation strategy is deduced based on mathematical analysis. Specially analyses the Space Vector Modulation strategy. By given the equivalent AC/DC/AC topology of matrix converter, modulates on part of equivalent VSI and VSR with space vector. On the base of this the indirect Space Vector Modulation is obtained. This paper simulates the introduced modulation strategy, establishes the Matlab/Simulink simulation model and analyses the input and output performances under the introduced control technology. Simulation results validate the correctness of the theory of matrix converter and provide theory basis and study methods to study matrix converter prototype.This paper presents a direct torque control and space vector modulation method for matrix converter drives of induction motor. It is possible to combine the advantages of matrix converter with the advantages of the DTC strategy by using space vector modulation algorithm of matrix converter and direct torque control strategy of induction motor. The proposed control system has been validated through simulations with Matlab tools. The waveforms of matrix converter and the speed/torque responses of motor show the effectiveness of the control scheme.
