With the development of renewable energy resource, distributed generator has become an important form of electrical source. With the interconnection of distributed generator, the distribution network loses its radial nature, the fault current changes in magnitude, direction and distribution. And it causes serious influence on the correct operation of protection and feeder automation. It is necessary to limit penetration level of distributed generator and improving the protection scheme to ensure the correct isolation and clearing of fault.This paper explains the background, the research progresses and research aims, introduces anti-islanding protection, analyses the distributed generator's effect on the protection and feeder automation, deduces the formulas of the allowed penetration level and verifies it with examples. The last part proposes improvement schemes of protection, feeder automation and the setting principle. It meets the basic requirement of the distribution network with DG.
