Sheet pile wharf encounters difficulties with the wharf developing towards deepwater and large-scale. It can't meet demands of increased moment . Covered type of sheet pile wharf is the independent innvotation result of china and at the leading level worldwide. The presentation of this structure promotes the sheet pile wharf and solves the problems which are produced when the wharf delevoping twards deepwater . It has important realistic meaning.Covered type of sheet pile wharf has advantages over others. Barrier pile bears part of earth pressure so that reduces the pressure acting on the front sheet pile ; On the other hand, barrier pile is not continuous arrayed, so soil arch forms when the base of harbor basin is dredged . Soil arch transfers a part of earth pressure to barrier pile so as to increase the pressure acting on it. However, few research studies are done upon such structure domestically and internationally. According to soil arch action, this paper focuses deep study on force analysis of this structure and determination of barrier pile space, which plays important role in engineering projects.First, the paper introduces the composition and features for covered type of sheet pile wharf , summarizes present situation of earth pressure theory , calculation method of earth pressure and structure computation method. Sencondly, the paper uses parallel-walls theory and arch-wall theory to deduce the calculation method of this structure combined with soil arch action and pile-soil interaction. Thirdly, this paper sums up research results of determination of anti-slide pile space, based on past work, brings up a new reasonable calculation method of pile space, provides calculation formula of pile space, arch highness and arch thickness. Finally, according as the geological conditions of Beijing-tangshan harbor, the paper analyses the structure of the 32th berth by the method which is established and compares the numerical solutions with measured; meanwhile, the paper analyse the influence on structure of barrier pile space through changing it, and draws the conclusion that the method propsed is reasonable and feasible.
