As the traffic mileage of the highway tunnel increases rapidly, the lighting cost has been a great burden of the operation departments. Nowadays, the existing lighting control mode can not meet the needs of energy saving. Thus, the study of energy saving technology on tunnel lighting not only provides a more comfortable driving environment for drivers, but also is very significant to reduce both the operation cost and energy consumption. According to the visual characteristics of tunnel lighting, this paper at first analyzes the main factors which affect the quality of tunnel lighting. With a view to the current energy conservation status of tunnel lighting, the paper also studies the control mode, operation safety and some other factors, and puts forward some energy saving strategies about increasing the tunnel side-walls and the reflectivity properties of pavements, reducing the portal brightness, adopting efficient energy saving lamps and the control mode, and making good preparations for the after-maintenance work. On the basis of discussing DALl(Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) lighting technology, the paper, through adopting advanced electronic technology and computer technology, designs the digital addressable DALI dimming ballast, mainly including EMI filter, active power factor correction, dimming circuit, ballast MCU(micro controller unit) controlling, and DALI and ballast MCU interface circuit module.Besides, the paper constructs a three-layer intelligent control network based on DALI, and designs a fuzzy controller according to the outside environmental factors such as the environment brightness and vehicle flow, therefore realizing the stepless dimming of tunnel lighting. Finally, with the example of Long toushan tunnel of Guang zhou, the paper makes a brief evaluation on the economic, social and environmental benefits of the tunnel lighting energy saving from the aspect of the investment cost and operating cost. This evaluation indicates that the tunnel lighting energy saving can gain not only considerable economic benefits, but also good environmental and social benefits. The verified practicality andnecessity by the paper provide useful experience and lessons for tunnel lighting.
