Traditional tunnel lighting has problems of poor adaptability to environment change, severe energy waste, serious environmental pollution, low level of security and intelligence. To solve these problems, this paper, based on the lighting demand, energy conservation and environment protection, and new lighting method of LED, aims to build a new type of operation mode and control method for tunnel energy-saving lighting system in the field of highway tunnel lighting.The new operation mode is modeling on the real-time brightness outside the tunnel, traffic flow and vehicle speed as the input control parameters and smoothing the curve by mathematical means such as linear interpolation, step linear and logarithmic dimming etc, which will contribute to establish the luminance curve model of energy-saving operation and adjust dynamically the length and luminance in various sections of the tunnel, to realize the security, high efficiency, and economy and energy conservation of tunnel lighting.To ensure its reliability and accuracy, the new energy-saving tunnel lighting system builds communication network with industrial Ethernet, RS-485 bus and the ZigBee wireless technology, designs the control modes of intelligent control supplemented with semi-automatic control and manual control, and adopts DALI-M as light control protocol.The slave computer system is hierarchically designed with the modules of tunnel monitoring main controller, DALI master controller and DALI slave controller and specially designs the key circuits in the CPU module, the power supply module, the data communication module, the DALI interface of the master and the slave computer.The PC system, based on the new operation mode, connects with the slave computer system, receives and displays the real-time environment parameters, and dynamically modifies the brightness of LED lights in the tunnel. The system will present the real time lighting state on the tunnel planar graph to realize in-time warning of abnormal situation and switch to predefined controlling mode so as to enhance the tunnel administrators’ working efficiency and to achieve intelligent adapt tunnel lighting control.In the end, by debugging the software and hardware of this system, demonstrating it on the sand table model to verify its feasibility, anticipative results have been attained.
