As the increasing scale of the Power System and development of Wide-area Measurement System, a new control measurement based on WAMS is necessary. So this paper researched the development of Model Predictive Control, then an new predictive control scheme based on WAMS is presented.First of all, one of the most popular measures named Generalized Predictive Control scheme(GPC) is researched. GPC was proposed by Clarke in the mid-1980s,which was based on the parametric model of the controlled plant with the an adaptive mechanism. The GPC based on linear models is the better robust and the better control performance. The simulation of GPC compared with conventional PID is given. It's proved that the GPC has a good control for the system with changes in time-delay and order.Secondly, because there are some shortages of GPC, another measure named Laguerre is introduced in the paper. And the good capabilities of Laguerre for system with changes in time-delay and order are given in the simulation. Finally, the paper presents a new method for TCSC using GPC control scheme with an adaptive mechanism. And the simulation of GPC-TCSC comparing to the TCSC using PID control scheme is given in the single-machine infinite-bus system. The paper also presents a new method for PSS using GPC control scheme based on wide-area signals. The simulations of GPC-PSS were given in the four-machine two-area system. The pilot studies show that GPC could improve the stability of system. And the results give the way for the further study.
