AS/RS is a complex combination system of Machinery, Computer, Controlling, Detection Electronics and Communications and has become an important tool used in modern logistics. At present AS/RS has being widely applied in various storages of every aspect of modern producing, for its convenience and shortcut, automatic controlling and space saving, all of which has a fundamental significance in streamlining production, reducing costs and improving economic performance.On the basis of large quantities of references related to the above subject, this paper comprehensively summarizes AS/RS's general development and classification, and then specifies the core device of AS/RS—Storage and Retrieval Machine on its history, present conditions of technology and the future development trend. With reference to the subject, the Storage and Retrieval Machine as the study issue, research is made on its position control, network communications and position control simulation. On the Storage and Retrieval Machine position control, according to the PLC and transducer , using rotary encoder uniting chip to identify the site design Stacker position control program, which has some reference value for the Storage and Retrieval Machine position control; Finally, utilizing MATLAB software, a simulation for general Storage and Retrieval Machine is made. On the basis of mathematical model, surmising fuzzy control's advantages of flexibility and adaptability and PID control's high precision of control, this paper then designs the fuzzy PID controller and creates simulation model. The result shows that fuzzy PID control can improve dynamic response of system and this method is of value to control algorithm of the Storage and Retrieval Machine.
