In recent years, the isolation structure has obtained a wide range of research and application for its superior damping performance. The dispute of rigid-flexible five times in the history also indicates that the isolation technology will be one direction of the development of structural earthquake disaster mitigation in the future. In our country, especially after the Wenchuan earthquake happened, the study of the isolation technology is all the more urgent. Base isolation is the most widely used in isolation technology, however, laminated rubber bearing is more studied of base-isolations in our country, the study of other isolation bearings is relatively little. In order to develop the diversity of base isolation technology and better satisfy our country's needs of the isolation technology, this paper studies the damping performance of a new type of FPS (Friction Pendulum System) base isolation bearings-metal sliding bearing. Metal sliding isolation bearing is designed independently by China's scholars. It is made of metal materials, with good function of sliding horizontally. At the same time it can adjust their damping system's damping value to need. In this paper, I analyzed and compared the acceleration response, displacement response, energy response and the response from the power spectral in the shaking table test of two test models which are metal sliding isolation support structure and the fixed support structure, and used SAP2000 to analyze the metal sliding bearing's damping performance. The results show that:1,Metal sliding isolation system has a good damping effect. Compared to fixed support structure, metal sliding bearing structure's level reduction factor is up to 0.285. Considering the level reduction factor's lower limit value 0.25 specified by building code, the metal sliding bearing has a very good shock absorption performance;2,Metal sliding isolation bearing has a good horizontal sliding and self-resetting functions, which are the premise of its good shock absorption performance; 3,Metal sliding isolation bearing can greatly reduce the structural seismic response, the reason of which is that it can effectively change the structures' responsefrequency in the earthquake;4,Metal sliding isolation bearing can more obviously discount the horizontalseismic force in high-intensity earthquake motion, it is more suitable for using inhigh intensity areas. In addition, experimental analysis shows that the metal slidingbearing is also applicable to ultra - rare earthquake areas;5,Metal sliding bearing's sliding radius has little impact on the damping effect, thesize of the sliding radius depends on the stress of the slider.
