With the development of the modern highway traffic, the growth of the traffic volume is very rapid, the increasing of heavy/over-loading traffic is very serious and the channelizing traffic is becoming more and more obvious. Therefore, the premature failure of the highway asphalt pavement becomes more and more serious. Although using modified asphalt in some pavement, the premature damage still appears in many highways. Hence it is a good choice to use the composite modified asphalt to improve the comprehensive performance of asphalt pavement, such as high and low temperature performance, and moisture susceptibility. The composite modified asphalt technology is extensively concerned.Through the performance research of 19 asphalt mixtures which are composed of 6 modified asphalts and 3 aggregate gradations, this paper analyses the impact of modified asphalts on the high temperature performance, low temperature performance and fatigue performance, based on the water susceptibility. The results show that different modified asphalt technologies should be adopted according to the different pavement structures and different environmental climates, and the construction and economic factors should be also considered. Then different composite modified asphalt technologies were proposed based on the different projects actual requirements in Shaanxi Province. Therefore it is important to select the proper asphalts during the highway design and construction to extend the pavement life span and improve the economic efficiency.
