As the development of highway, the heave maintenance for highway has become to the main problem of the road management departments. We don't have any criterion about the heave maintenance, which bring great difficult for us to design and construct. The paper studies the key points of the heave maintenance through investigation and experimental research, which will bring certain value in standardizing and solving the mass condition.Firstly, the paper summed up the causation of pavement damages. Based on which, the contents, process and evaluation of the condition of highway are proposed. Secondly, the proper time of maintenance and the maintenance measures are studied, the indication (road condition, deflection, traffic volumn, etc) is determined by the combination of objective and subjective method, and the proper time of maintenance is ascertained through the methods of multiple attribute. We can consider the following method to choose the preferential measure. At first, we bring relative value and weight of the factors (initial investigation, the period of construction, extended life, expected effect, total expense, etc), and then sum the relative value of each factor. On the basis of investigation and experimental research, we summarise some measures for heave maintenance, mainly: preventive maintenance, reinforcement of the subgrade (piling, grouting), overlay of asphalt pavement, recycling and rebuilt. At the same time, the applicability of each measures, the key points in construction, the quality control and detect are proposed in the paper. The paper analyses the preventive maintenance by the method of life-cycle costs analysis and then discuss the method in desiding the thickness of overlay in addition.At last, some examples of the highway maintenance are enumerated in this paper which can be used as references.
