With the development of economic growth, the electric locomotive with the advantages such as high efficiency, low pollution, is getting more and more widely application and development. With the bow net's unceasingly breakdown, the safe of railway in China is deeply affected. In this paper, I applying the digital video monitoring technology and the machine vision technology in the electric railway monitoring, and developed the wireless video observation system of locomotive pantograph, finally applied these in the middle-low speed railroad in actuality, theoretical furthermore the improvement program of system application in high-speed railroad has been analyzed, which provides an effective technical equipment to prevent pantograph-catenary breakdown and ensure the electric railway's security operation.Locomotive pantograph is a device that capture electric current from catenary, which is working under the sliding, friction, heat, electricity and chemical environment and is easily broken. The experimental prototype system has been improved in this thesis, which has been applied in low-speed railway experimenting. By the way, this paper constructs the scheme of hardware system—Seven sub-systems, which containing synchronous triggering unit, snapshot unit, video recording unit, the front integrated control unit, wireless transmission unit, central processing unit, lighting unit, and the strategy of installation and controlling in the spot. In this system, the dynamic image of pantograph is photographed by the cameras and the central processing unit automatically recognize the varies pantograph breakdown, the remote monitoring is realized by the wireless transmission system, and every supervision point can be realized by the internet. The system can work safely under the interference of high voltage and all-weather conditions by design of system hardware stent and part of the protection measures. Program to improve and replacement some of the hardware from expedition environmental factors. The software part of the system is constituted by the front control software and the central control software. Modified part of the system software debugging at the scene. Collected a large number of static and dynamic pantograph image of normal and fault for research of the digital image processing techniques in the thesis.Modernization and intelligent of the detection technology represents the development oriental of the modern monitoring technology. This thesis uses digital image processing techniques to recognize the breakdowns of the locomotive pantograph, finally achieves monitoring automation. And it's the first time that applying the monitoring system in practice low-speed railways.
