With the fast development of economy, science and technology, railway transportation has met a great opportunity and challenge. The electrified railway with the advantages of high efficiency, large capacity and low pollution has been widely developed all over China. Because of the frequent faults of pantograph and overhead contact system (OCS) in electric locomotives, the safety and efficiency of electrified railway transportation have been seriously affected. Therefore, a kind of pantograph state monitoring system based on wireless video was presented in this thesis. Also, the implementation scheme of this system was established in accordance with the real condition of Shuo-Huang railway. Moreover, the improved scheme of this system for high-speed railway was analyzed. The system can monitor the conditions of pantograph from part to part, prevent faults of pantograph and OCS, therefore, it ensures the safe operation of electrified railway.The scheme of hardware system is constructed in detail in this thesis, including locomotive coming synchronous triggering photographing and video recording system, the front-end control system, wireless bridge signal transmission system, central control system and on-site lighting system. The software system is constituted by the front-end control software and the central control software. Front-end control software set parameters of the front-end equipments and control it by the instructions from monitoring center, in order to ensure the real acquisition and effective transmission of the photograph information. Central control software analyzes photographs returned by the front-end system, and determines the state of pantographs. In case of failure, a alarm signal will be given out. Controlling the front-end equipments and managing users'rights are also the tasks of the central control software. Besides, the selection and installation of sensors, hardware supports and power souses are designed in this thesis.In 2009, this system was installed in the Shuo-Huang railway Suning North stationâ…ˇoutsourcing line. The evaluation results show that this system has steady operation, proper hardware configuration and reliable installation. This system using digital image processing realized the identification and early warning of the failure of pantographs, and met the design requirements.
