With the continuous development of the bridge technology, many new bridge types have been produced. The extradosed cable-stayed birdge has been considered as a new type of structure in recent 20 years, whose mechanic characteristic lies between continuous rigid frame bridges and cable-stayed bridges. The extradosed cable-stayed bridge has been widely applied in many areas of the world because of the predominant structural behavior, excellences of beautiful sculpt, favorable economic index. On the basis of the summarize of this kind of birdge's design dates in the world, the structural parameters, mechanical behavior and design theory of the extradosed cable-stayed birdge are analyzed.Firstly, the development of this type bridge is presented. Combined with the design and construction dates of this kind of bridge all over the world, essential characteristic of the extradosed cable-stayed birdge are annlyzed on macroscopic view. And then discuss the name of this kind of bridge.Secondly, the extradosed cable-stayed birdge's parameters affecting to structural internal force and stress amplitude are analysed emphatically by using finite element method. Thus, the reasonable bound of these parameters include the ratio between the side span and the mian span, the height of pagoda are found in the paper. And main girder's parameters are also discussed.Forthermore, the extradosed cable-stayed birdges are been studied as compared with continuous rigid frame bridges and cable-stayed bridges. The static and dynamic characteristics of three bridge styles are analysed based on the finite element theory. The similarities and differences of three bridge styles performance in mechanical.At last, combined with the background engineering, the force condition of LuZhou Bridge is analysed. And on the basis of it, design procedure of extradosed cable-stayed birdges are summarized.
