With the development of the bridge technology, many new bridge types have been constructed in the world.This bridge type is a hybrid between a cable stayed bridge and a girder bridge so as to extend the span range of the girder bridge. The extradosed cable-stayed bridge, considered as a new type of structure, has been rapidly developed and extensively applied recently because of its advanced structural function and economy. Based on an under-constructed extradosed cable-stayed bridge, some researches on this kind of bridge type were done.Firstly, this paper reviews the origin and development of this bridge type, overall analysis on the characteristics and the future development prospects of the extradosed cable-stayed bridge are worked. Considering the bridge's design features, a systematic description and analysis of the overall layout, structural characteristics, mechanical properties and its application on the extradosed cable-stayed are carried out, and as a basis to discuss the extradosed cable-stayed bridge definition.Secondly, on the basis of a extradosed cable-stayed bridge, the Fenhe Bridge built in Shanxi province, a finite element model is established after optimal analysis and taken as the model for farther parameter research. And then, the finite element model is verified by comparing with experiment results.At last, based on the established finite element model, the effects with different structural parameters (the support conditions, the height of pagoda, the length of non-stayed cable segment and the ratio between the side span and the main span) on the structural internal force and deformation are analyzed and the reasonable values of the height of pagoda, the length of non-stayed cable segment and the ratio between the side span and the main span are obtained.
