Dynamic compaction is a kind of method that tens of tons of heavy hammers from tens of metres to consolidate soil. The method develops out of heavy hammer, which is a new method of ground treatment. Nowadays, dynamic compaction is extensively applied in many areas, such as industrial and civil building, storehouse, oil tank, highway and railway bed, airplane runway, pier and so on. In view of there being no study at home and aboard on how to deal with the situation when the bearing capacity of back subgrade of abutment cannot meet the design need after back subgrade of abutment constructed, an in-depth and systematic study was conducted on deformation property about back subgrade soil based on dynamic compaction. The main contents are presented as follows:(1) investigate and summarize the study on theory and the application of engineering about dynamic compaction at home and aboard according to the study contents to educe the subject characteristic and the same common ground with other engineering.(2) Model tests are carried out by constructing layer-built simulated subgrade with representative GUANZHONG loess and an abutment model. Adopting various combinatorial constructing techniques of dynamic compaction to tamp simulated subgrade strongly to test total sedimentation quantity, lateral deformation, each layer sedimentation quantity of simulated subgrade, degree of compaction and so on.(3) Combined with TONGHUANG highway construction, field tests of dynamic consolidation dealing with the back subgrade of abutment are carried out in the representive experimental sites in order to reflect the real situation. According to the test value, study the deformation property about back subgrade soil.(4) Analyse synthetically and evaluate theoretically the information related to investigating, model tests indoors and field tests and put forward study result of the subject to provide evaluable gist of compacting technique and result which applies to dynamic consolidation dealing with back subgrade of abutment.
