It is a ineluctable trend that engineers apply computer and optimization algorithms to optimizing various structures along with fast development of computer and optimization theory. Based on such a background and the soaring development of steel structures especially light-weight steel structures in China, the author puts forward a research program on optimization design of changed section of portal frame light-weight steel, which is thought to have a broad prospect in practice.In design of light steel factory, the current design method mainly is of many times "design- analysis- design again" process to get a more satisfied design project. Obviously this design process need engineers to try to find and compare, not only need to cost more time and extend design period, but also be limited in a handful of candidate projects for election to carry on comparable analysis. So steel materials will be surplus. This program was write in VC++ development environment, based on penalty function method. This program can optimize section of portal frame when this portal frame is changed section of portal frame and have double cuniform beam After giving the design data, the designer import corresponding parameter, the program would be automatically work out optimum size of each control section. So it will consumedly reduce calculating time. Using computer to optimum structure have very obvious meaning. First, save a great deal of design time, shorten the design period; Secondly, make designer without design experience can also quickly do optimization design of changed section of portal frame light-weight steel; Finally, get economic target.
