Spiral bevel and hypoid gear (shorted bevel gear) are the key driving part of automobile, tractor, aero and light industry. The bevel gear meshing transmission quality has an important effect to the machine system's operating performance. The transmission performance, vibration, noisy and working life are decided by tooth surface geometrical shape in a great extent. Aim to control tooth form quality, the Gear Measuring Center (GMC) is extensively used to inspect tooth form in international manufacturing industry of bevel gear. In GMC, the technology of tooth form and pitch measuring is quite mature at present, but not of unknown parameters bevel gear. As a result of the theoretical tooth surface unknown, tooth form and pitch measuring and calculating of unknown parameters is quite difficult. Tooth profile processing quality is judged by the tooth contact zone and the movement stability in transmission, named TCA. It could reflect the tooth profile processing quality in essential for theoretical tooth surface. As result of processing error of tooth form, heat treatment distortion, the contact situation of actual tooth surface isn't reflected and judged by that. About unknown parameters bevel gear, because of theoretical tooth surface isn't built, tooth contact analysis only could be done after building actual tooth surface model. Meshing theory of real tooth surface has been research massively, but it's method and theory should be consummated in further. About some bevel gears which have a good contact performance, gear manufacturers have a desire to reverse and manufacture, wish to gain the forming cutter and machine adjustment parameters of tooth surface in result. But the research on that and attempt are few. Therefore, it is a significant value of academic and engineering to research the methods and algorithms of tooth form measuring,measuring tooth surface contact analysis and surface reverse of bevel gear.In this paper, the principle of GMC and tooth form measuring method are researched and understood. After that, the tooth form and deviation measuring and calculating method of unknown parameters bevel gear is researched based on the type 3906GMC, and the model of digitized reference tooth surface is built. Measuring tooth surface contact analysis of bevel gear is researched base on free-formed surface,combining with meshing theory of gear and CAGD. In transmission, the derivation of meshing points is researched by two ways, which are meshing theory and surface interference. At the same time, the calculation and plot of motion error curve is researched. A method of calculating instant contact oral and zone is proposed in the way of surface translating and intersection, and the theory reasoning is done. Take digitized reference tooth surface by measuring as the goal, surface reverse is done by the method of numerical approximation base on basic model of machine. In which, the forming cutter and machine adjustment parameters of bevel gear tooth surface could be calculated.The implementation program of measuring,anslysis and reverse of surface has been developed using Microsoft VC++ and MATLAB. The experiments show that the methods of measuring, TCA of measuring tooth surface and reverse of surface are correct and the software is feasible.
