As the safety of building floor slip resistance is becoming a new public safety problem in china, it is very urgent for us to determine the slip resistance of building floor, develop testing instruments and compile slip resistance testing standards. Based on the mature technology abroad, we should learn from foreign countries and establish a perfect building floor slip resistance assessment system which is in line with china's national conditions and compatible with the existing technology abroad as soon as possible.The occurrence and development of friction between two objects is an extremely complex process. Frictional properties are not the inherent properties of materials, but the combined properties of materials and conditions. Through theoretical and experimental research, the purpose of this paper is to provide some reference evidence for the further work such as compiling and enforcing slip resistance testing standards of building floor in china, developing testing instruments, and so on.The main works of this paper are as follows.Firstly, current research and standardization work on floor slip resistance were comparative analyzed at home and abroad, several commonly used testing instruments were introduced. Also, a variety of theories were exposited, multiple factors on the frictional properties between the two contactable objects were analyzed.Secondly, based on the principle of rubber tribology, a series of tests were carried out to determine the frictional properties between rubber and floor tile with the simple self-made friction testing instrument in horizontal drag method, the effects of normal force, nominal contact area, static contact duration and surface contact environment on the static coefficient of friction (SCOF) between rubber and floor tile were studied. The results showed that: (1) the SCOF between rubber and floor tile was slightly affected by the normal force under dry, wet and engine oil contaminated surfaces; however, the normal force was significantly affecting the SCOF between rubber and floor tile under glycerol contaminated surface, the SCOF increased with the increase of the normal force.(2) the nominal contact area affected the SCOF very much, and the relationship between them was complex.(3) the SCOF increased linearly with the increase of static contact duration, but the static contact duration slightly affected the SCOF.Finally, three kinds of floor tile slip resistance testing instruments were preliminary designed, a simple field testing instrument was made with one design proposal, and then a series of field tests were carried out on several different building floor to determine the slip resistance of them. Some useful suggestions were made for the further research and work.
