Sunflower-type cable dome is a kind of prestressed spatial structures with characteristics of reasonable mechanical properties, light weight, large span, and beautiful form etc, however, there is no engineering example in our country because its forming technology is complex, and the membrane material is easily damaged under the action of wind load. To improve these shortcomings, based on structure system of traditional sunflower-type cable dome, this paper presented a new type of cable dome system, that is, sunflower-type cable dome with two loops in each layer, and correlative research on this new structure system was made using finite element analysis software ANSYS. First, by analyzing the mechanical properties of models with different geometric shape under load, selecting method of the optimal ratio of inclined cable angles was obtained. Secondly, by analyzing the mechanical performance of models imposed with different prestress under load, the optimal level and proportion in each lower loop cable of prestress were obtained. Again, by comparing mechanical properties of the traditional sunflower-type cable dome model and the new cable dome model with the same geometric shape, advantages of the new cable dome were concluded. Finally, the layer by layer construction method of the new structure system was researched during the whole forming process. Through the analysis, it is considered that the sunflower-type cable dome with two loops in each layer has advantages of good mechanical performance, small deformation and simple construction process, thus it has bright prospect of practical application.
